Server went down . . .

Hi,
I just wanted to be fair, I was playing this game:
http://sr.lichess.org/5XdMQ0aKZaOC
Server went off for short time, but game was marked as win for me. It was indeed my opponent turn, but nevertheless game had to be aborted, not marked as loss for him. It was server connection fault.

I would say, compensate that undeserved point by playing again and let that opponent win.
@thibault
Sure, I've got that - network is making probs, but as You can see such cases require new approach. Maybe server should check both players connection, and in case that both are disconnected (or appear to be so) game is to be aborted. Plus there is rating points loss, to which some users are pretty much sensitive.
#4 the system appears to be pretty fine as it is IMHO, one's rating isn't certainly resembled by one game. Lichess usually goes down for updating for 4/5 seconds and gives 15 seconds to each player in return, that's it. Other things appear once in a blue moon and are likely, like in this case, not actually related to lichess itself.
When making a priority of things to fix you shouldn't look at someone else's fault to fix first.
That said, I think aborting the game is pointless. Many people who play on wi-fi have small drops and that would be causing many more upset players than it would prevent.
Let's also take a lost position, if your opponent drops for a few seconds you could just close your browser and have an aborted game.
I don't really see that feature having some tangible benefit for the community.
#5 So You haven't read my last post then. What I said - server should check BOTH players, and only if BOTH appear to be off - abort the game.

You said that system is pretty fine, while in reality we have issues like I posted. We both were off the server, and he lost the game.
This scenario is what I talk about.
#8 Rewriting my whole answer would be pointless, I believe everyone could exploit that "new feature" by having many aborted games in lost positions. Again it had nothing to do with lichess. Not only no other chess website does that, but no other online game that I recall has that feature implemented, and I have no wonder why. When coming to a decision you have to ponder how many players are going to benefit off that and how many are definitely not, and the comparison here appears pretty obvious to me.

PS. I wouldn't want to be the developer writing dozens of lines of code just to fix someone else's connection issues that appear once in a blue moon.

Have a good day.
#2 Thibault,.All day I've had problems connecting to various sites, maybe France related hop issues but I reckon it's a more widespread problem.....it'll be in the news for sure....surprised it's not there already!
