False advertising - being open to giving takebacks

http://imgur.com/a/iSOxu

I just encountered 2 opponents one after the other who had takebacks turned on.

The first declined my takeback proposal after I explained it was a jokes move because I misclicked. It was frustrating because I went on to draw game when they were in a forced checkmate sequence before and I thought it was obvious to both of us I was 2-5 moves away from victory with nothing to stop me, only delay. But that's fine there are any number of reasons they could have refused:

1) Maybe they just didn't believe me that it was a misclick.
2) Have takebacks turned on in preferences by default.
3) Only give them to friends.
4) Opportunistically wanted to jump on misclick when the pressure was on in endgame.
5) Any number of other reasons

All fine in my opinion, I think miclicks are the most worthwhile reason to have takebacks turned on, to right a wrong that wouldn't ordinarily happen playing on a board in real life. But people can use them however they like or choose to have them turned off.

The second opponent started out by gloating to 'never underestimate the power of a queen' after I lost mine in a blunder, ironically I won with just rook against queen and bishop, and rooks are better at endgame in racing kings being less impeded by no check rule.

Then they admitted to never giving takebacks and only having it on as a helpful reminder when their opponent has blundered.

Now I've had people offering a draw when I am one move from victory to take pity on them and read of people in the forum explaining they use the draw tactic when it appears they are in a winning position against a naive opponent but they are actually losing.

But I think abusing the website platform in this way is particularly unfair, where takebacks are allowed but those who never intend to accept them don’t turn them off, making it appear that they are open to being asked.

What do people think is the best solution to this problem? A platform where you can ask to only be matched with others who accept takebacks? And how would you enforce it? I wouldn't want to turn this site into a popularity contest, but we all know the flaggers and opponents who only care about points and love to gloat when we encounter them. And then there are those that are going against the rules like harassers. Most of us don't enjoy playing them and wish we could avoid the whole experience rather than having to be satisfied with blocking them afterwards.

some people don't know how to disable the take back option.

A miss click is like misplacing a piece. Just be more careful in future. Why should you be frustrated with another player for not allowing you to take back a move. It is an option and he has opted, not to give a take back.

Your miss click looked more like a blunder in my opinion :-)
That would be fine if they ever had any intention of giving takebacks in the first place, they have played many games and been using the site a long time so it is beyond unlikely that they are unfamiliar with the site and preferences. So I was frustrated because I had a clear win, and thought it was reasonable grounds for takeback and didn't get one.

I play on a tablet 10cm across when travelling about and tall guy with big hands, so misclicks are inevitable, not a matter of effort so I only play with people who have the feature turned on. I notice you haven't played the racing kings varient, after 1 or 2 games you'd realise when it's safe to move king up the board you take it, and it's a big advantage to do so, blocking the space king has to move up board by moving queen back out of the action is a completely irrational move.

The second opponent was just using plain online false advertising, so no justification.
simply start moving pieces by not dragging but by clicking instead, nevertheless missclicking is your fault, somehow you seem to think it is your opponent's
@alex_beneath I don't drag but when you're clicking a square with your finger and moving it to the directly neighbouring square, it can misread you hitting 2 squares with big fingers and small board, and move a different piece as happened to me. It can absolutely be my fault but given that I know they will happen more often with the tablet and that miclicks make the game intirely uninteresting and joke, I wish to be able to chose between games where takebacks are allowed and not, that's what I thought the takeback feature in preferences was for, I dont think it's fair for someone to purposefuly mislead their opponents with an online tool that wouldn't be a problem in real life.
"wouldnt be a problem in real life" so in real life you ve had plenty of opponents accepting takebacks?
you are saying that because he gave you the option to propose takeback, he has to accept the takeback?
that there should only be 2 options in preferences, 1.always accept takeback and 2.never accept takeback?
"choose between games where takebacks are allowed", you mean where all takebacks are accepted without asking your oppponent, that could be a short comedy video perhaps, not part of the real world though
"it can misread" now its the app's fault? your tablet's fault? still not yours
even if we accept that you were born with a condition that does not allow your brain to accurately control your fingers, it is the world that has to adapt to you and not you to the world?
I understand the frustration from mis-clicking; I mis-click fairly frequently because I play almost exclusively on a phone where the squares are smaller than my fingers.

Still, I don't think that allowing takeback requests in any way obligates a player to accept them, even for obvious mis-clicks, however annoying that is.

It's the default setting on the server, so most people just don't bother changing it (I've played here for a while, and until responding to this post, hadn't even gone to my preferences page).

Even people who sit down and go over all their preferences probably just pass over that one as not important.

I especially don't think anyone sat down, read through all the settings, and thought "Oh, my, what a devious idea! I'll keep takebacks enabled, but never give them! Muahahaha!".

You just can't expect people to give takebacks, especially in rated games, where almost everyone has lost rating points from mis-click blunders at some point, and is only too happy to be on the opposite side for once.

In short, I understand the frustration, but I'm pretty sure no one's out to get you.

People like winning, and if they have an opportunity to win more easily (especially in a rated game, where they've almost certainly lost because of the same thing), they're going to take it.

It's just part of the game, and I'm pretty sure any attempt to "fix" it would have more problems than it might solve.

I'm not arguing with idiots who quote mine, I'll put my faith in others to read back and understand what I actually wrote.
