Apologies if this has been asked before (or I am missing the obvious), but after each draw I have seen references to Magnus's rating going down 1 point and Sergey's up 1 point, but when I see their ratings at the start of the next game, they are the same as before game 1. How do rating points work here?

Fide rating is only measured each month, so it will need some time for changes to take effect.

http://2700chess.com/ to see the 'live' ratings of the players (ratings updated after every game), it's not official but it's very accurate and they update it right after the games.

Carlsen's rating shrank to 2840; Karjakin's rating went up to 2785.
