If you are playing a much longer game, you can take notes, of ideas and moves you've rejected, etc

Aren't notes prohibited in Fide tournaments?
Just to let you know - You can have nasty notes written about you without being able to see them.
Only friends of friends can see them. Ask mates with lots of followers what they say.
