It works like this: One person starts by saying something that is related to Harry Potter, as example "Hogwarts" or "Ron" and then the next person has to write something related to Harry POtter beginning with the last letter of the thing that was said by the last person. Using the example "Hogwarts", the next person could say "Snape", since it starts with the letter "s" (and yes, it can be several words long).
